Teltonika Remote Management System Explained
Teltonika Remote Management System, universally referred to as RMS, is a cloud-hosted IoT device management platform developed and maintained by Teltonika Networks. It is designed specifically to work with the full range of Teltonika Networks routers, cellular gateways and modems - including all RUT, RUTX, RUTM, TRB and TCR series devices.
At its core, RMS solves a fundamental challenge in IoT and M2M deployments: how do you efficiently monitor, configure and troubleshoot dozens, hundreds or thousands of remote devices spread across a wide area - without needing to visit every site? The answer is a centralised, cloud-based management layer that maintains a persistent, secure connection to every enrolled device.
Key concept: RMS does not require devices to have public IP addresses or open inbound ports. The connection is initiated outbound from the device to the RMS cloud, meaning deployments behind carrier-grade NAT or private APN networks are fully supported.
How Does RMS Work?
Every Teltonika Networks device includes built-in RMS client software. Once a device is enrolled - a simple process that involves entering your RMS account credentials on the router - it establishes an encrypted connection to the Teltonika RMS cloud platform.
From that point onwards, the device reports its status, metrics and events to RMS in real time. You can see the device on your dashboard, view its connection quality, check data usage and receive alerts if anything changes. When you need to take action - update firmware, change a configuration, or connect remotely to equipment behind the router - you do so through the RMS interface, with all traffic travelling through the secure RMS tunnel.
What Devices Does RMS Support?
RMS supports the complete current portfolio of Teltonika Networks devices, including the following product families:
- RUT Series - compact industrial 4G LTE routers including RUT240, RUT241, RUT300, RUT360 and RUT950
- RUTX Series - advanced dual-SIM routers including RUTX10, RUTX11, RUTX12, RUTX14 and RUTX50
- RUTM Series - ruggedised metal-body routers for harsh environments
- TRB Series - industrial cellular gateways including TRB140, TRB142, TRB145, TRB245 and TRB255
- TCR Series - LTE CAT routers
- DAP Series - industrial access points
- TAP Series - access points
- TSW/SWM/TSF Series - managed network switches
The Credit System Explained
Access to RMS is licensed on a credit basis. One RMS credit gives you one month of full management for one device. This model means you only pay for what you use and can scale your RMS subscription exactly in line with the size of your device fleet.
Credits do not expire as long as devices remain enrolled. When credits are applied to a device, that device gains full RMS functionality - monitoring, remote configuration, remote access and alerting - for the covered period. When the credit period expires, the device remains visible in RMS in a limited capacity, but full management features require renewal.
Credits are available in single units right through to bulk enterprise packs of 1,000 or more, with significant volume discounts applying to larger purchases. Multi-year packages (5-year and 10-year) are also available for long-life deployments where devices will be managed for the full product lifecycle.
RMS Connect - Access Third-Party Devices
One of the most powerful capabilities within RMS is RMS Connect. This feature extends remote access beyond Teltonika devices themselves to any equipment connected to the local network behind a Teltonika router. Using RMS Connect you can reach IP cameras, industrial PLCs, HMIs, servers, NAS devices, Windows machines (via RDP), Linux systems (via SSH), or any web-accessible device (via HTTP/HTTPS) - without needing a VPN or public IP on the remote network.
RMS Connect supports seven protocols: SSH, Telnet, HTTP, HTTPS, RDP, VNC and SFTP. Connections are created easily using either an auto-scan mode (where RMS scans the local network and presents available devices) or a manual entry mode where you specify IP address and port directly.
